I am obsessed with fly fishing. I always have been since I was very young…for some reason for me I was always fascinated with fly fishing. I remember seeing an old perrine box of flies my dad had back when I was probably 5 or 6 and just dying to use them. My dad taught me to fish with a spinning rod and the first fly fishing that did was with a fly behind a clear bubble. When I was 7 years old we were on a small stream in southern Utah and had been catching fish dunking salmon eggs, but some fish started rising in a pool and my dad broke out a fly rod. The small brookies and cutthroat were super eager so it was fast action. He let me make a few casts and I will never forget it. It was all downhill from there.
Ever since that point I have spent any moment I could escape on the water chasing fish with flies. From riding my bike up a canyon near the house I grew up to having my parents drop me off in the mountains to backpack, it was all about fly fishing. I learned to tie flies when I was 12 years old and got to the point where I wouldn’t fish with anything but my own. I do buy some harder to tie patterns these days just for time purposes, but still love tying my own and creating variations on patterns to find what works best. I taught several of my friends to fish starting in junior high and some of them have become almost as obsessed as me and we still fish together.
I decided to put together this site both for a reference for me since I am constantly seeking out new places to fish and species to chase and as a reference for others. I also have various crazy thoughts and ideas about fly fishing and fishing in general so you will find ramblings about that as well. I hope you enjoy the site and feel free to contact me with any comments or suggestions.
